Music Video Production

When filming this music video I filmed the artist singing the song about 15  times, using different wardrobes makeup and settings knowing that in the editing process I would be cutting between each take. In order to give us point to dissolve between each shot the camera is always moving very slowly. This gives the video being a slow love song a flowing feeling that goes nicely with the flow of the song.

Green Screen Shooting

Editing green screen video is important but not as important as shooting it correctly. Have you ever watched something that was shot on green screen and the result was seeing a outline of green on the talent. To avoid this problem it is best to have 8 feet between the talent and the green screen. Light up the screen from both sides as evenly as you can. Light the talent separately. Now put a back light on the talent with an amber film over it.
By taking these steps you have eliminated the reflection of the green screen on the back of your talent and replaced it with an amber light.
Watch how much easier editing will be.
Cheers

Telling a story

I find so often that when telling a story like a news piece. It is just a talking head I think they need to move around a bit.

Making Photos Take Action

In the video below a website developer introduces his company, but does not like being on camera nor did he memorize his script. Easy fix just read and we will use b-roll. A second problem we had no b-roll so we used photos of sites he had built. Just showing photos just sounds to boring so we made the photos move I think it just feels better.

Shoot to edit

When you are preparing to shoot a video stop and think about editing it first. A good shooter knows how to edit. For example if you have stopped your talent in between lines change out the shot. Most important B Roll. have plenty on hand for example if shooting a interview after the shoot take reaction shots of both the interviewer and the interviewee. So in editing if there is a word or phrase that needs to go away you simply take it out and input a reaction shot so the awkward transition becomes natural. I would like to demonstrate in a video but do to lack of time I must keep it short today I will provide samples later. Happy shooting.
